The Basics
Becoming
Emergency Service qualified involves self-study, attending training classes
and actual hands on training by attending a SAREX (Search and Rescue
Exercise).
The
self-study will entail reading CAP regulations governing ground team and
aircrew training. Also, reviewing UDF Team/Ground Team training guides and
the Scanner/Observer training manual for aircrews are part of the training
process. Aircrews are required to complete a Scanner – Observer course
offered by the squadron. In addition,
the squadron will offer ground team training classes throughout the year.
The hands on
training will occur by attending a SAREX.
To be qualified in an ES specialty, each member must attend a SAREX
and participate in two actual mission sorties. To participate in a SAREX, you must submit
a participation letter from your squadron commander
For more
information about becoming ES qualified direct your question to the
squadron’s Emergency Services Training Officer.
The First Step:
Senior
members and cadets 18 or older may train as an aircrew member. Both senior members and all cadets may
train as UDF Team and Ground Team Members.
Senior members and cadets over 18 may train as a Ground Team
Leader. Senior members can train as an
aircrew member and a ground team member simultaneously.
- The
first step in the ES qualification process for senior members is to
complete Level 1 Training. Cadets are required to have completed
their Curry.
- Cadets
and seniors review the CAPR-60-3
regulation governing ES operations and qualification.
- Upon
completing the exam print the certificate for your personnel file.
- Congratulations!
You have completed the requirement for becoming qualified in General
Emergency Services.
- Go
to the CAP National HQ website Civil Air
Patrol Online and log onto e-services and print a 101 Card. If you require help then contact the
squadron’s ES training Officer.
The 101 Card will show “GES” printed in the center column, which
indicates that, the requirements for general emergency services have been
completed.
The Second Step:
After
completing the requirements for a General Emergency Services rating, cadets
and seniors will proceed to becoming qualified as an Urban Direction Finding
Team Member (UDF). Seniors following the
aircrew-training track will proceed to reviewing the CAPR 60-1 regulations.
- Print
a copy of the UDF SQTR (Urban
Direction Finding) or MS SQTR
(Mission Scanner) depending on training track. These SQTR can be printed from this
webpage or from MIMS found on the National HQ webpage under the
e-services tab.
- The
familiarization and preliminary tasks listed on the SQTR are to be
completed first. Begin by
reviewing the UDF & GTM Task Guide or
the Mission Aircrew Mission Manual. To have a task signed off, the cadet
or senior member must demonstrate the ability to perform the task in the
presences of qualified instructor.
- When
all preliminary tasks are signed off, the cadet or senior member will
begin the advanced tasks listed on the SQTR.
- Attending
a SAREX or advanced training class will complete advanced training
requirements. However, to meet
all requirements to be qualified as a UDF Team member or a Mission
Scanner, the cadet or senior member must attend a SAREX and participate
in a minimum of two mission sorties.
Before participating as an aircrew member on a flight be sure and
read the Mission
Aircrew Duty Sheet and become familiar with Aircrew
Standard
Operating Procedures.
- When
a cadet or senior member has completed all requirements for UDF Team
member or Mission Scanner and has a completed SQRT then the Third step
begins.
The Third Step
When a cadet
or a senior member has all tasks signed off and two mission sorties with
mission numbers for Urban Direction Team, Mission Scanner or any other ES
specialty, the completed SQTR is given to the Squadron ES Training Officer
for approval and entry into MIMS.
After the SQTR is enter in MIMS the original SQTR must be kept as a
permanent record in CAP-114 ES folder.
After the
SQTR is entered in MIMS the Squadron Commander will review all entries before
approving. When approved at the
squadron level, the Wing ES officer will review and make the final approval.
The Last Step
When the SQTR
is approved at Wing, the cadet or senior member is now ready to print a 101-card.
This can be done from the e-services webpage. The 101-card will list all of the members
ES specialty qualifications. If an * appears by a specialty qualification,
this indicates the member is trainee status and not fully qualified.
